Maintenance Starts with Daily Observation
Like most vacuum trucks and other types of industrial equipment, water-blasting machines should undergo daily safety inspections to check for wear and tear. These checks take only a few minutes a day; however, they can make the difference between efficient use and the higher costs associated with equipment that needs repair. Daily Maintenance Checks for Best Performance

- Empty Filter Bags - The pumps on water blasting machines are very expensive and easily damaged. To prevent solid debris from damaging them, it is essential to frequently check and clean pump filter bags. Never let them become over full, increasing the chance that debris will bypass the filter and end up in the pump.
- Check Belt Tension - Belt tension is a maintenance item that is most frequently overlooked. The belts on water blaster vacuum trucks should be checked daily to ensure they are properly adjusted. Tightening loosened belts will save money on fuel as well as general wear and tear on the machines. - Oil Reservoir - The oil reservoir should be checked every time the blaster is started and monitored every 30 minutes to ensure water does not get into the oil. If the oil becomes discolored, this indicates water in the reservoir. The machine should be shut down and the oil replaced to prevent damage to the unit.
- Lubrication Lines - Without proper lubrication, water-blasting trucks will sustain significant damage. Ensure lubrication lines are working properly by making sure there is water coming out of the lines and the plungers are activating.
- Bearings, Fittings and Clutch - To keep water blaster machine bearings and grease fittings functioning properly, most manufacturers recommend cleaning and re-greasing after every use of the machine. Failure to do so could lead to debris getting pushed into the bearings. Additionally, the clutch should be greased after every use, unless it is a self-lubricating model.
